Our recent contract win with Quorn Foods rounds off what has been an exciting time for us with expansion at our premises in Stockton-on-Tees also now completed. As a company, we have traditionally had a varied stock holding with clients from throughout the world, as well as locally, and we hope this stands us in good stead should any markets dwindle.

We are very fortunate to be located within the periphery of Teesport which we utilise greatly for both imports and exports and it will be interesting to see how or if this alters over the coming years as BREXIT comes into effect. The initiative currently championed by our Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen – to award the Port ‘Free Port’ status would undeniably bolster investment in the area and, although our Bonded Warehousing facility currently allows clients to defer duties payments whilst their goods are stored with us, the ability for products to be manufactured as well as stored within one area must be a hugely attractive proposition for future investors.

There is also an air of optimism generally about the North East of England with various large investment ventures in the pipeline, one of these being a £70 million Refinery from Australian Company Peak Resources. It is this air of optimism that we feel from our clients, too, and probably the most expansive markets we have noticed in the past 12 months comes from our Bonded Warehousing in the form of Gin, together with tonics and mixers. This is probably unsurprising given the rise in Gin Distilleries (standing at 315 distilleries in Britain in Jan 2018) – more than double the number operating 5 years ago. And, whilst the health conscious among us may be preferring the low sugar content of gin, statistics suggest there are still plenty enjoying rum – with UK sales reaching £991 million from Jan – Sept last year. This doesn’t even appear to be at wine’s expense (or certainly English Sparkling wine) if our racking is anything to go by. What is apparent, however, is that our drinking habits are changing – we now demand quality over quantity and many are even enjoying these delicious accompanying tonics and mixers on their own (no spirits required)!

Whilst it’s fair to say that we could hold a very good Christmas party out there (!) there are some products in our General Warehousing you may be surprised to see. Luxury bathroom fittings, world class marine equipment, top of the range roof tiles and tea bags – just to name a few.

We currently employ just shy of 50 people so whilst we aren’t small – we certainly aren’t a large organisation. This means that our people are at the heart of our business and daily contact with our Directors for staff members is assured. We are, therefore, proactive and able to adapt and act quickly to satisfy clients wishes. We recognise the huge opportunity Quorn have given to us in our association with them yet also appreciate our smaller clients who are less well known just as much. After all, who knows what is going to be the next big thing in today’s ever changing world!
